Tendon Repair

This is one of the most advanced Hand Surgeries we perform at Purple Heron Hospitals. This surgery includes repairing the tendons, the fibres that connect muscles to the bones. The cause of Tendon-related injuries can either be trauma, accident, rupture or a particular disease.

Tendon repair surgery is classified into three categories, viz. Primary Repair, Delayed Primary Repair & Secondary Repair.

Primary Repair is undertaken right after the injury (within 24 hours), Delayed Primary is performed after a couple of days of the damage & Secondary Repair surgery is done after 4 to 5 weeks.

Nerve Repair

This is another complex surgery that we undertake at Purple Heron Hospitals. The Nerve Repair procedure deals with fixing the damaged nerve due to an injury or some illness. This results in the loss of function or sensory loss.

Generally, the damaged nerves heal independently, but sometimes, the Nerve Repair procedure becomes mandatory.

Under this procedure, our experts reattach the severed nerves to restore normal functioning. If the nerves are damaged beyond Repair, our doctors perform Nerve Grafting (using the nerves from other body parts).

Skin Grafts

These are the most common procedures performed across the globe by hand surgeons. This procedure is helpful in fixing some primary injuries. Especially minor amputations or cuts on the fingertips or other regions of the hand can be restored with the help of Skin Grafting.

Under this procedure, healthy skin is collected from another region of the body & is attached to the damaged area. As the skin used is of the same individual, the chances of rejection by the body & reaction are minimal. At Purple Heron Hospitals, we perform hundreds of such Surgeries every year.

Fasciotomy

Fasciotomy is an advanced procedure undertaken to treat Compartment Syndrome. If you are suffering from this syndrome, swelling is a common issue. This causes the compression of the nerves & blood vessels in the compartment of your hands. The obstructed blood flow causes too much pain & reduces your hand's functionality.

Our plastic surgeons at Purple Heron Hospital can offer you relief from this pain with the Fasciotomy Procedure. Under this procedure, our experts make a small incision near the affected area of your hand.

This releases the pressure on the nerves & restores the blood flow. This can drastically reduce your pain & offer better movement of your hands. Also, if some tissues are damaged here, they can be removed via that incision.

Skin Flaps

This surgery is almost similar to a Skin Graft. The only difference here is the skin used in the Skin Flaps procedure has its blood vessel. This procedure is used when the affected region does not have a blood vessel or the blood vessels have been damaged due to trauma.

Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty)

Human hands have many joints that enable us to perform various movements & activities. Sometimes, these joints are severely degraded due to hand arthritis. Under this condition, the joints become weak, their strength reduces & they undergo degradation. This causes too much pain & immobility.

At Purple Heron Hospitals, we perform Joint Replacement or Arthroplasty to tackle this condition. Here the natural joint of the hand is replaced with an artificial joint to improve movement & mobility.

The artificial joint is generally crafted from rubber, silicone or metal. Sometimes, if the patient does not want a foreign object in their body, our experts can prepare joints using the tendons from the patient's body itself.

Closed Reduction & Fixation

This is the most common procedure at Purple Heron Hospitals. This procedure is used for treating broken or fractured bones in the hands or fingers. The best way to fix these broken bones is to align them & let them heal on their own.

To do so, our experts use the most advanced technology to precisely align the fractured bone. To ensure immobilisation of the hand during the healing process, rods, wires & casts are used.

Replantation

This is a highly advanced & precision-demanding surgery. Our specialist plastic surgeons at Purple Heron Hospitals undertake this procedure to reattach a finger or a hand severed from the body.

This is an extremely complex procedure where hi-tech OT and ultra-modern tools are required. As the procedure includes reattaching the nerves along with the bone & skin, it's done via microsurgery.
